The Office of Special Programs-College Prep's after-school program for high school students seeks an outgoing, highly organized individual with demonstrated attention to detail, ability to work effectively within a team, prioritize and multi-task, establish and adhere to deadlines, think critically and problem solve. Must have excellent verbal and written skills.
The College Planning Program Assistant works closely with the Associate Director Curriculum/Evaluation and high school participants to co-create a fit and match plan to support participants’ post-secondary goals. They will provide college-readiness support by:
- Supporting college-readiness programming and financial aid/FASFA workshops;
- Assisting students with researching and applying for scholarships;
- Engaging and coaching parents/guardians about the college application process;
- Engaging in outreach to college admissions counselors
- Supporting the college application process;
- Assisting in implementation of workshops, panels, identify fairs, events and college tours;
- Helping to connect participants with College Greenlight, Chicago Scholars, Posse Foundation, fly-in programs, etc.
Assistants will also:
- Work collaboratively with the Tutor Coordinator and SAT Test Prep Coordinator to provide differentiated college prep support to participants according to their individual plans, in small group and one-on-one settings;
- Analyze report cards to identify student needs for academic improvement plans.
With support and under the leadership of the Associate Director of Curriculum and Evaluation, they will:
- Assist with the implementation of interactive lessons that will assist youth to develop academic techniques: study skills, organization skills, time management.
- Co-lead parent workshop series on post-secondary options and process.
- Connect parents/guardians with the financial aspect of the college application process [i.e.-FAFSA/MAP, income documents, Parent PLUS loans].
- Track participant progress and provide consistent documentation/ progress notes about observed needs.
Minimum requirements: This is a part-time, non-exempt position, requiring roughly 20 hours per week, on site from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and Saturday 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., with some scheduling flexibility.
