Jumpstart - Pre-School Tutor

Neighborhood School Program
Neighborhood Schools Program

Students interested in early childhood education should apply to be a Jumpstart Corps Member. Jumpstart is a nonprofit organization that helps 3-5 year olds learn to read and write. At the University of Chicago, Jumpstart partners with NSP to train undergraduate and graduate students to run their own literacy program for 3-5 year olds by working closely with preschool teachers in Woodlawn schools. Students receive extensive training during Autumn Quarter before being assigned to schools in teams to deliver the literacy lessons and lead activities. Students should expect to work about 7-9 hours/week, which includes ongoing training sessions.
